Beach Stone Surprises

It was a beautiful day yesterday. The kind of day that you are drawn to visit the beach to smell the salty air (and maybe collect a few stones).

I've been playing with beach stones, crochet and my new oil paint Sharpies. I'm not an amazing doodly artist, but it's always fun to play and fun to practice. I'll get better at it.

This morning I was out for a walk and thought it would be fun to leave my rock creations along the way. I wonder if they will be found (smile).

Crocheted Beach Stones

Warmer weather is coming and it just seems wrong to crochet scarves and hats this time of year doesn't it. This is my first spring with a hook in hand and I have discovered the perfect warm weather crochet project...crocheted beach stones.

I have a little stash of stones, so in the spirit of making snuggies for everything, I thought I would give it a try.

I did the first one with some fine cotton thread and my 2.25mm hook. Then I thought embroidery floss might be pretty so I gave that a try too. Two thumbs up on the embroidery floss!

Supplies for crochet beach stones

I simply went to my book of circle motifs and made a circle that covers the face of the stone. On the back side I did rounds of single crochet with decreases. At some point your have to insert the stone and finish crocheting around it.

I love this display of beach stones, some felted and some crocheted.

The Valley Tulips

Doesn't this just make you go ahhhhhh...can you smell the colors?
The Valley tulips are always ahead of us by a couple weeks. So while I am patiently waiting for mine to burst open, my Mom has a beautiful display in her garden.
Happy Mother's Day to all the Moms out there!
